Show CSU's Unique Carillon Bells To Ring in Christmas Season Again fij ii BESSIE DOVER I The pjeallng of the CSU caril-Ion caril-Ion is once again heard this Christmas season as it has been for the past ten years. The carillon caril-lon was purchased by donations from the alumni and persons of the immediate area. Originally carillons consisted of bells played by ropes. The CSU carillon, however, consists of a three-octave keyboard. The effect is the same as that of the traditional carillon. At full volume, vol-ume, the bells can be heard for 20 miles in all directions. A special technique Is required requir-ed for the playing of the carillon. It is different from the piano or organ in the fact that It must be , played very slowly In order to; avoid an echo and overlapping of tones. Mrs. Bessie Dover and Mrs. Shirley Cowan, CSU staff members, are serving as carillon-ists carillon-ists at the present time. The carillon wll Ibe hearH throughout the Christmas season and Sunday afternoons At 4:00 p. m. throughout the year. |
