Show Cedar - Parowan Basketball Squads Meet Nevada Teams in Two-Day Tournament Parowan and Cedar High Schools will be hosts Friday and Saturday evening to out-of-state basketball teams at the annual Iron County Tournament. The Rams of Parowan will host the Friday night event which will feature the Cedar High School Redmen against Lincoln County High School, Panaca, Nev. The Rams will tackle Western High School of Las Vegas, Nev. in the feature game of the evening. even-ing. Saturday night the opponents will be reversed and the games moved to Cedar City. Opening up will be Parowan against Lincoln and the Redmen will follow against Western. At both places the opening game Is slated to begin- at 7 p. m. with the host club to follow at 8:30 p. m. Both of the Nevada clubs ranked rank-ed high in their various leagues in that state. Western is the defending de-fending Triple AAA Champions of Nevada and already this year have posted a win over the Nevada Ne-vada Southern JV's, a team that the College of Southern Utah met In their opening week of play. Panaca, under the coaching of a former CSU star, left handed Jimmy Rice, Is also reported to be a top contender this year for the Class A state championship. For the Redmen and the Rams, both have had their problems in their early games. Coach Lowe 1 Caldwell of the Rams is carrying only nine men at the present time. Last week, however, after being beaten rather handily by Hurricane In the opening week of play, bounced back to give the Tigers a real battle in an overtime game at Parowan. The Redmen lost their opening game of the season against Millard Mil-lard In an overtime game and this past week picked up a win over another Nevada school, Basic Ba-sic of Henderson. Both the Rams and f ie Red-men Red-men have lost to what is felt to be a well-balanced team from Panguitch. Coach Bruce Decker is looking for a little more balance in his team offense but will still rely heavily on Neil Roberts who in three games is averaging 29.3 points per gume. |
