Show City Council Takes fiction to Comply Vith Request of Dixie Gas Company The application of the Dixie Gas Company for extension of water and power lines to property proper-ty recently purchased by the company for the establishment of a distribution plant here, was considered and passed at the regular re-gular meeting of the City Council Coun-cil on Tuesday night. The meeting meet-ing was changed from Monday to Tuesday because of lack of a quorum to do business. The Dixie Gas Co. is a division of the Las Vegas Gas Co., owned and operated by T. Gay Myers and Byron Thornton, the latter a former resident of Parowan. This company has a large number of liquified gas (bott.led gas) customers cus-tomers in this city with the distribution dis-tribution and service plant at St. George. Purchases Property The company has been contemplating con-templating placing a distribution plant here for some time, and has purchased the north half of the block north of Harold Dal-ton's Dal-ton's orchard from Mr. Dalton on the east side of First East street and reaching almost to Highway 91 north of town. It is planned to Install an 18,000 gal. storage tank with other facilities for distributing dis-tributing the gas, with future developments de-velopments calling for construction construc-tion of a home there for the company com-pany agent. In the application, made by Mr. Myers, the company requested power and water lines be placed to the property this week so that actual construction can start next week, and city supervisor Max Hendrickson was instructed to see that this work is done. Other items of business taken care of at the meeting were as follows: City electrician Ross Guymon requested permission to hire help to aid him in taking down the old transmission line between Parowan and Paragonah In order to salvage wire and poles' for usa in other electric line construction, with the Council granting the request. re-quest. Installation Delayed Mr. Guymon also called the attention at-tention of the Council to the cost of installing lines for the water-heater water-heater cutoffs In the city according accord-ing to plans of City Engineer Thomas O. Adams. He stated that as long as Parowan City has to pay for so much power on the demand rate from Southern Utah Power Company under the contract con-tract rate now being charged by the Power Company there was no need for going to the expense of installing the water heater cutoffs. cut-offs. The Council agreed that unless un-less this contract rate for demand power can be lowered at a meeting meet-ing of city representatives with the Public Service Commission next week, there woiUd be no use of installing the power cutoffs. Therefore Guymon was Instructed Instruct-ed to postpone any work on this project until the rate matter is disposed of. It was reported that the new city. dump ground was ready for use with the exception of some road improvements and fencing of a roadway from Highway Ul South about 80 rods to the dump area. This is being done this week so that the ground will be more accessible to those hauling rubbish to the dump. Residents are cautioned by city officials to be careful and not .'et rubbish fall on the highway from town to the grounds and to dump the rubbish at designated places only. One other action of the CouncU was to raise the wages of all extra ex-tra help hired by Parowan City to $1.00 per hour. |
