Show 1953 Utah State Fair to Feature Bigger. Better Hobby Show Display A new, revised Hobby Show department is in store for fair viewers and exhibitors at the 1953 Utah State Fair, Sept. 12 to 20. Last year's hobby exhibits attracted at-tracted more viewers than any other fair event with exhibitors virtually tripled over the previous previ-ous year. In order that more attention at-tention may be devoted to individual indi-vidual collectors and builders, this year's hobby show has been classified into four separate divisions: di-visions: one covering hobbies in general, a separate unit for minerals, min-erals, the ceramics division, and a new outstanding photographic division. The general hobby show is open to all residents of Utah who possess a hobby, whether it be collecting one-legged turtles or South African zebras. Stamp collecting, model building, coin collecting, etc., will all be separated sep-arated into individual departments depart-ments with the usual list of ribbons rib-bons and medals being awarded. The Ceramics division, open to non-professionals only, will maintain its own separate display dis-play unit. This event met such a popular response last year it has been even more enlarged for the 1953 showing. The Mineral division, always popular in Utah owing to the state's great accomplishments in the mining industry, will be open to collectors of all types of mineral specimens. With the field limited to amateurs an outstanding out-standing list of entries is expected. expect-ed. The Photography division, with both a professional and amateur department, will occupy the entire en-tire floor of the Industrial Arts building. Several contests for photos taken during the fair, plus premium awards and ribbons are all on tap for entrants. Also, live models will be in attendance for shutter bugs to try their luck for special awards. Virtually everyone in the State of Utah possesses a hoppy of a sort and all are invited by J. A. Theobald, fair manager and secretary, sec-retary, to make their entries early. ear-ly. Mr. Theobald states, "This year's Utah State Fair has more than ever before devoted its resources re-sources to the display and featuring fea-turing of hobbies. With the knowledge of their universal appeal ap-peal we know our hobby displays dis-plays will attract a vast number of viewers." Individuals desiring to enter their hoppy in the 1953 Utah State Fair are invited to address inquiries to J. A. Theobald, secretary-manager. |
