Show A Word of Praise As the season draws to a close for the Little League and the Pony League, we feel that a word of praise is due the men who have made this excellent program such a success through generous contribution of their time and efforts, with nothing to gain other than the satisfaction of having worked with and for the youngsters of the community. com-munity. Of course, a great deal of the credit must go to Cleo Petty, who has given leadership to both programs and worked long hours handling details, keeping the fields in good shape and training the boys. Not only has he given leadership to the two leagues in which 110 boys have participated, par-ticipated, but he has kept about 60 more very happy with a "minor" league. Many others have contributed much to the program, particularly the managers of the eight teams in the two leagues. These men are all busy with their own jobs, with families that take much of their time. Yet they have gone to the field for practice sessions before work in the mornings, and returned after work for the games. They have missed vacation trips, fishing trips and other plea- sures to stay with the kids on their teams and to give them guidance and help. We know of no community service that is more unselfish un-selfish and contributes more to the welfare of the people of this city than this, and we feel that these men and others oth-ers who have helped with the program are entitled to much credit and wholehearted support. In these busy times not many people are willing to sacrifice their own time and activities for the benefit of others. Those few have done a wonderful job and certainly will reap much satisfaction from the knowledge that they have made a bunch of kids happy, but that is the only pay they will get. The Elks lodge is also entitled to much credit for providing pro-viding the wonderful Little League field. The lodge as a unit has supported the program generously and a number of individual members have done a tremendous amount of work building the field. The field is a monument to the generosity and public spiritedness of this group and to the individuals who have given leadership to the program and worked so hard to complete the field. |
