By paid membership In this organization, every Iron County citizen can positively contribute to the prevention pre-vention of mental illness. The Iron County chapter has a constructive program under way. The association has promoted promot-ed a program whereby clinical psychologists have been able to -work with mentally disturbed children in Iron County schools. The association sponsored a very successful public meeting at which Dr. Hardin Branch, head of the department of psychiatry at the University of Utah, was the principal speaker. Tlans are now projected for a well-planned mental health institute to be held in Cedar City and Parowan on May 5 and 6. All Can Contribute Mary Jane Ward, author of "The Snake Pit," recently declared de-clared that many of the people in mental hospitals could have been saved by early treatment. "If we are to benefit," she said, "from the medical profession's ever-growing ability to prevent and cure mental illness, we must i provide adequate facilities for practice and for further research and training. "Relatively few of us are in a position to offer professional ser- I vices or large financial contributions, contribu-tions, but all who are interested can contribute significantly to tie meneal health educational program. "Again and again during the pai-t year I have heard doctors and political leaders say there isn't a great deal any one professional pro-fessional group can do to solve our mental illness problems until un-til the general public becomes seriously concerned. A positive way for an individual to express hts serious concern is to join forces with other civic-minded persons who, through mental health organizations, are working work-ing -to rouse the needed public interest in what is a major public pub-lic need." Your Iron County Mental Health Association solicits your active support. |
