Show Funeral Services Held for Parowan Matron, 81 Funeral services for Mrs. Isa-belle Isa-belle Ward Mortensen, 81, were htld Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Third Ward chapel with Bishop Howard M. Adams piesiding. Mrs. Mortensen died in her sleep early Sunday morning morn-ing at her home here of causes incident to age. Speakers at the services were Mrs. Mortensen's grandson, Grant Mortensen, who gave a brief history his-tory of his grandmother's life, and President W. Clair Rowley, with closing remarks by Bishop Adams. Musical numbers were, the opening song, "They That Sew in Tears," by a double mixed quartet consisting of Bert rude Mitchell, Cora Ward, Berta Rowley, Row-ley, Berta Burton, Pres. W. Clair Rowley, Pres. J. Harold Mitchell, Eugene Orton and Howard Ward accompanied by Mary Lyman at the piano; a vocal solo "Mother Machree," by Bill Matheson, with Barbara Jane Bayles at the piano; a vocal duet, "In The Garden," Gar-den," by Whitney and Rula D. Orton, with Mrs. Lyman at the piano, and the closing song, "Lead Me Gently Home," by the quartet. Organ prelude and post-lude post-lude were by Jackie Ward. The invocation was by George Stevens, the benediction was by John W. Bentley, and the grave in the city cemetery was dedicated dedicat-ed by Joseph E. Ward. Mrs. Mortensen was born in Parowan July 17, 1872, a daughter daugh-ter of Edward and Elizabeth Paiker Ward, pioneers of this area. She attended local schools and on June 4, 1899 she married Joseph Edgar Mortensen in the St. George L D S temple. They rt sided on a farm in Parowan valley for many years. After the family moved to town Mrs. Mortensen became active in the LDS church, especially in the Relief Society organization, where for many years she was in charge of the work day in the ward. Mr. Mortensen died in May, 1937. Survivors include eight sons and daughters, Delbert, Bart and Ward Mortensen, Parowan; Elmo Mortensen, Monrovia, Calif.; Walter, Big Bend, Calif.; Mrs. Mel (Mary) Robb, Santa Barbara, Calif.; Mrs. Nada Webb, San Diego; Die-go; Mrs. Charles (Beth) Montgomery, Mont-gomery, Los Angeles; 28 grandchildren, grand-children, 42 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchil-dren. |
