Show Testimonial Honors Loyal Cedar City Booster T :,.", 4 V, - "V. . ,. - ' ! . i ' i "S, William W. Flanigan, energetic energe-tic outdoorma;i and enthusiastic civic booster of Cedar City for many years was honored at an unusual testimonial meeting at the Fourth W.ird M I A meeting meet-ing Tuesday evening. Mr. Flanigan, who with a brother bro-ther assisted in establishing the famed Zion Canyon cable by which lumber was lowered from the mountain top to the floor of the canyon, making it possible to market timber of the area, has been an enthusiastic booster of the scenic and industrial possibilities possi-bilities of Southern Utah since. He is generally considered to be the first man to make the trip down the "narrows" from Cedar mountain to Zion Canyon, and has explored many other remote re-mote attractions of the area. Last year he made the annual Tim-panogas Tim-panogas hike in American Fork Canyon, the eldest person ever to make the strenuous hike. Friends and civic leaders gathered gath-ered at the MIA meeting to pay tribute to Mr. Flanigan, among them Dr. John Beal, president presi-dent of the Cedir City Chamber of Commerce, officers of the College Col-lege of Southern Utah, where Mr. Flanigan served as campus superintendent for 30 years; the Old Timers Club and the Cedar City Rock Club. He Is a charter member of the two latter organizations. |
