Show Commissioner Gives Explanation on Road Project Funds A news release about a recent meeting in Delta in the interest of development of a highway from Cedar City through Milford, Delta and Tooele to Salt Lake City has caused considerable criticism, particularly as to statements state-ments reported to have been made by Lyman Sevy, member of the board of Iron County Commissioners. Com-missioners. A misinterpretation of the statements made seems to have caused all of the criticism Mr. Sevy states. In the news ieleases, sent to newspapers of the area following the meeting, it was indicated that Mr. Sevy stated that Iron County had spent $80,000 on the Cedar City-Minersville road, and also gave the Impression that some $10,000 In B and C funds from the state would be available avail-able for aditional improvements. Mr. Sevy states that he pointed out at the meeting that Iron County had spent considerable time and money on the road in years past, that work was being done on it at the present time, and that It had been estimated that it would take $80,000 to bring the road to a graveled standard. His reference to the B and C funds, he says, was in response to a question as to how much money Iron County would receive from this source. He estimated es-timated this at $10,000 but made no reference as to where the funds would be allocated. He points out that the county haa been developing the Cedar-Minersville Cedar-Minersville road for a number of years as an Important county "feeder" highway, and voiced the opinion that developments would continue as county funds became available. Considerable work has been done during this winter by the use of heavy road equipment when it could not be used elsewhere. Mr. Sevy states that at no time did he designate desig-nate the amount of money spent on the road, because he did not have the information, and that he only referred to the estimated cost of completion of the project. |
