Show Officer swore at youths officers. Even in this day and age with bad language on TV and in the movies, no one needs to be subjected sub-jected to such filthy words. In my opinion, people working in public jobs and for the people should be taught to treat us with respect so that we can treat them with respect also. Donna Hiatt Dear Editor Two young 14-year-old boys, on their way home from Salt Lake, got off the bus on Highway 89 and decided to take a short cut home through a yard. The next thing they knew, as they were coming from Top Stop, heading home, a policeman stopped them and had them spread against his truck, frisked frisk-ed them and said he was looking for weapons. He used very foul language as he talked to them, then handcuffed i them, which left marks on their ' arms for hours later. When the boys asked "What did we do?" his answer, an-swer, in very rough tones, "You know what you did, just shut the -up." At this point, the boys thought that he thought they had taken something from Top Stop since that's where they were coming from. They did not know why he had i stopped them until he got them to one of the boy's homes and started telling the boy's father. They stood there handcuffed and in shock, t He charged them with trespass- ' ing and told them there had been some robberies in the area and someone had seen them and there was an all points bulletin out for them in the county. By the way, this was about 7:30, in the daylight. First of all, the boys, who are 1 good kids and have never been in ' trouble before, did not need to be ' subjected to such foul language. I I know a lot of policemen and have a brother who is a policeman and know they definitely do not use such language, even with hardened criminals, let alone young boys. Secondly, there is no reason why , he could not tell them why he had i stopped them in the first place. I You can imagine the impression 1 he is setting, not only degrading I himself, but all policemen. I am a 1 school teacher and we are trying to teach respect for law enforcement |
