Casual summer afternoons are spent with friends and family. And, what better way to enjoy the visit than to serve delectable chocolate treats with luscious strawberry flavor? Take advantage of the summer's ripened strawberries by including them in desserts, snacks, or shakes. "Chocolate Bavarian With Strawberry Sauce" is a smooth, creamy dessert that can be prepared ahead. Gelatin combined with unsweetened cocoa, creates a frothy mixture that is poured into a decorative six-cup ring mold and chilled. Fresh strawberries are placed into the cavity of the mold and a delicious "Strawberry Sauce" is spooned over each serving. r. V , hi-Z ' 4 i'U"-.. ' -ilf- ' : 5 CHOCOLATE BAVARIAN WITH STRAWBERRY SAUCE 1 envelope unflavored gelatin 2 eggs, separated 1 Va cups milk Va cup sugar, divided Vi cup Hershey's Cocoa 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup chilled whipping cream Strawberry Sauce (recipe follows) 1 to 2 cups fresh strawberries In medium saucepan, sprinkle unflavored gelatin over egg yolks beaten with milk; let stand one minute. Combine Vi cup sugar and cocoa; stir into milk mixture. Cook over low heat, stirring with wire whisk, until gelatin is completely dissolved, about five minutes- Pour into large bowl; add vanilla. Chill, stirring occasionally, just until mixture begins to thicken. In small mixer, bowl beat egg whites until foamy; gradually add remaining XA cup sugar and continue beating until soft peaks form. Beat whipping cream until stiff. Fold beaten whites and whipped cream into chocolate mixture. Pour mixture into six-cup ring mold. Chill until firm, about four hours- To serve, spoon small amount Strawberry Sauce onto serving plate; unmold dessert onto sauce. Fill cavity with fresh strawberries. Serve dessert with remaining sauce. About 10 servings, STRAWBERRY SAUCE In small saucepan combine Vz cup sugar and one tablespoon cornstarch; stir in one cup water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from heat; stir in one cup fresh strawberry puree (about two cups strawberries). Add few drops red food color, if desired. Chill thoroughly. About two cups sauce. |
