Show Richard E. Gourde Richard E. Gourde, passed away June 24, 1990, at the age 71, following follow-ing a long struggle with congestive heart tail ure. Born Oct. 2, 1918 in Oakwood, N.D. to Domicile and Irene Gourde. He married Catherine Anne Schulz Sept. 15, 1951 of Saint John's Church in Inglewood, Calif. He loyally served serv-ed in the National i pi Guard and the Navy during World War II as a radio operator. After the war, he was a federal inspector for the Department of Defense. Richard was a devout Catholic and was very active in St. Olaf's Parish in Bountiful. In 1988 and 1989 he was the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He was also member of the Blue Army and volunteered many hours of religious training in the Catholic faith in the Bountiful area. He also gave freely of his time and energy to the community by driving for Meals on Wheels and doing charity chari-ty work at the Utah State Prison. He also provided for the parochial education edu-cation of all of his 1 1 children. He is survived by his wife, Cathrine, Bountiful; Richard and Susan Gourde Jr., Bountiful; Mary and Roger Rakowski, Los Angeles; Alice and Victor Komahrens, Whit-tier, Whit-tier, Calif.; Theresa D. Gourde, M.D., Seattle; Regina Gourde, Bountiful; Loretta Gourde, Phoenix; Lorraine and Michael Beman, Colorado Springs; Thomas Gourde, Esq., Salt Lake City; Paul Gourde, Beaty, Nevada; Jerome Gourde, Salt Lake City; James M. Gourde, Bountiful; and 1 1 grandchildren. He is also survived sur-vived by two brothers and one sister. Richard had a great love for his wife, children, his relatives and for life. He enjoyed nature, hunting, fishing, reading, playing chess and sharing his time with his family. Funeral mass was held at St. Olaf's Catholic Church on June 27. Interment: Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
