Show Local golfers swinging into action By MIKE CANNON Record Reporter Golfers are swinging into action on the Cedar City Painted Hills Golf Course according to club pro Gale Parcell. Parcell is looking toward a big year for the city-owned course. "We're looking forward to a busy year" he stated. "A lot of people will be staying closer to home and enjoying the things we have here, like the golf course." Painted Hills will be sponsoring tournaments and clinics throughout the upcoming up-coming months for its. association members and City Recreation Department. Depart-ment. Also the driving-range, driving-range, golf-course and putting green are open from daylight until dark, seven days a week. Several improvements have been made and additions ad-ditions added in anticipation for the upcoming season. NEW CLUB ROOM A club room is being constructed to utilize for association meetings and other activities. Also, the driving-range has been fenced to protect golfers on the first fairway from errant slicers working on their swing. the general public. The Painted Hills men's and ladies' associations will be spear-heading a multitude of events, beginning with the Men's and Ladies' Scramble on April 25. There are still plenty of memberships available for both groups, said Parcell. Interested golfers can register at the pro shop at the course. Annual fees are $12 for membership in the Men's Association and $6 for a Ladies' Association card. Association privileges include in-clude Ladies Day every Thursday for the women and Men's League involvement on Thursday evening for male golfers, along with tournament participation. The new Men's Association president for the year is Dick Lebbon. Heading the association for women will be Virginia Miller. Steve Judd will be keeping the course in tip-top shape. VARIETY OF SERVICES In addition to Association activities, a variety of services will be offered to all local residents. Parcell will be holding clinics throughout June in conjunction with the Cedar |
