Show Tonight should settle issue Rod Stewart said, or maybe sang, it best: "Tonight's the night." A significant issue, familiar to many, will be a key item on the agenda of this evening's Cedar City Council meeting. The question of whether Craig Holyoak should continue functioning as both a city employee and editorial cartoonist will be before the Council. uninvolved community person and balding at 24 youngster, I can only feel right about lending voice in support of Craig's right to express his views. So you don't think that somebody with such sterling qualifications as myself should carry much weight as far as opinion goes? I totally agree. (I have been carrying more weight lately, in general, according to my wife.) Two hefty opinions have been voiced on the matter. First, the public has spoken, which should be significant to a representative represen-tative body like our City Council. The petition to be presented tonight bears the feelings of many in the community. Second, and even more important in this particular instance, a five-member board including close work associates of Craig's have specifically stated that his personal effectiveness as an officer and that of the force as a whole has not been impaired by Craig's cartooning. That same body has also said that the City is outside its jurisdiction in even responding to complaints regarding Holyoak's drawings. If a few people cannot distinguish between policeman Holyoak and cartoonist Holyoak, they should be informed of the difference. Needless to say, these statements are extremely significant, even if my meager opinion isn't worth a heck of a lot. A decison by the City to overrule the sound recommendations of the five-member five-member board and disregard valid input from interested citizens would seem to indicate extreme pressure is being applied from some other source, without due cause. Hopefully tonight's decision by the Council will be based on solid criteria and not on the feelings of civic or government people who have had their toes stepped on. Sore toes usually heal, how about the same for sore feelings? By Mike Cannon Plenty has been said about the situation, and I personally will be glad to see the matter settled (though not one way or the other).
