Show Yt f 'iK: V J PHS girls finish strong Lloyd Baker glides toward the finish of the 3200-meter run. Baker placed second in the state and helped lift Parowan to a second-place 1-A state track ranking. The Parowan High School girls track team duplicated a third place finish in Region 12 competition as they compiled 58 team points to finish behind North Sevier and North Summit in Saturday's state 1-A track meet. Rain, wind and cold in Cedar City made competing on the SUSC track anything but a joy. Despite adverse conditions, two state 1-A records were set by Parowan at the ' meet. A foursome of Cindy White, Barbara Davenport, Debbie Allen and Misti Bentley put together a 4:27 1600-meter relay time to blow away all competition. com-petition. The record time was 13 seconds ahead of second place North Summit. Misti Bentley also ran a 1:01.5 trials time in the 400-meters to establish a new state record in the quarter. Her 1:02 time in the finals clinched her the state championship in the event. Debbie Allen scooted around the oval in 1:04.3 to easily capture second. Allen also ran a 28.55 in the 200- meters to finish fourth in the sprint. A 800-meter time of 2:41.77 netted a third place finish lor Barbara Davenport. Davenport defeated state-champion state-champion Teresa Edwards of Beaver in the Region 12 meet but couldn't repeat the feat Saturday in the cold, wet conditions. Angie Bentley finished fourth in a tightly bunched 300-meter hurdle finish. Bentley clocked a 54.18 time to pick up four team points for the Rams. Cindy White finished fifth in the 100- r meter hurdles. She turned in a time of 17.09 seconds to place in the final heat. The sprint relay team of the Rams finished second behind a state record setting Kanab foursome. A speedy 54.19 time was recorded by the Ram speedsters. Field events were a weak spot for the Rams. Only one individual placed in the five events. Misti Bentley hurled the shot 31 feet to finish one inch behind the second place competitor and garner six third-place third-place points.
