Show Dinosaur picture contest for children announced Denny Davies, Chief of Interpretation In-terpretation at Dinosaur National Monument, announced that a dinosaur picture contest for children will be held at the Monument from July 27 to August 12. It will be conducted as part of the Monument's week long celebration of the 72nd anniversary of the discovery of the dinosaur bones by Earl Douglass. Activities planned for that week will also include a re-creation of the tent camp in which Douglass and the other dinosaur bone hunters lived; an open house at the Quarry and its laboratory ; and a special slide show about the early work on the bones. According to Davies, the topic of the picture contest is "The World of the Dinosaurs as Children Imagine it." Drawings of any meat or plant eating dinosaurs, and the environments that they lived in, will be accepted. The contest is open to children in three age groups: 1) seven and under; 2) eight through eleven; 3) twelve through fifteen. All drawings submitted will be exhibited at the Quarry Visitor Center from August 13 to August 20. Judging will take place August 14. Contest winners will be announced at the evening program on August 15, with prizes to be given for the "Best Picture" Pic-ture" and "Most Creative Picture" in each age group. Beginning July 27 and continuing August at 4 p.m., drawings will be accepted for the contest at the following locations: Dinosaur National Monument, Quarry Visitor Center, Jensen; Dinosaur National Monument, Headquarters, Dinosaur; Uintah County Library, Main Street, Vernal; Dinosaur Natural History Museum, Main Street, Vernal and Rangely Public Library, Main Street, Rangely. |
