Show Prepare children for kindergarten The L'intah District School Nurses are concerned about the new kindergarten kin-dergarten children entering school for the first time. They advise mothers to not forgot the all-important "kindergarten "kin-dergarten booster". Most kindergarten children, if they have followed the recommended immunization im-munization schedule, had their baby shots ( DPT and polio) at tw o months, 4 months and 6 months of age, with the combination measles, mumps and rubella shot at 15 months and the first DPT and polio booster at 18 months and are now due for their second booster before entering school. These required immunizations are not just something the schools and the health department have drummed up to hassel poor mothers, but are a big reason w hy this year, as of May 1, 19R1, I'tah has" boon free of measles for 12 consecutive months. Since 19()8 when records started being kept Utah has never had a previous 12 month period without a case of measles. Free immunization clinics are held every Friday from 9 to 5 in the county nurses' office nt the courthouse. Another important stop for new school students, according to school nurses, is to the doctor and dvntist for a checkup The kindergarten physical is not mandatory in l'intah School District but highly recommended if your child has mt had a good physical since babyhood. As school nurses they are surprised at how many kindergarten kin-dergarten children have never been to the dentist Children nee1 to learn earlv that the dentist is tru-ir friend and little problems are much cheaper and easier to correct than big ones The Fluoride Sw ishmg program w ill be offered again in the grade schools kindergarten through 8th grade. Even though your child is taking a ctnlv fluoride tablet, the weekly fluoride swish is a big help, especially where Ycrnal's water supply has so little natural fluoride, and 75 cents per child for the school year is a real bargain |
