Vernal youth group to present the 'Magic of Families Show' During the next three nights, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, there is going to be a special sort of magic show in the Vernal area. Special because of the drive behind those performing. This group of young people organized themselves with the idea of doing something worthwhile for the community during the summer break. The show, to be held in the junior high auditorium, in itself is a little out of the ordinary in that the content is both entertaining and uplifting, but under the bright lights and silver lining, contains a number of meaningful messages. The cast consists of six of Vernal's talented jazz dancers, who throughout the production dance to such tunes as Olivia Newton John's hit "Magic" from the motion picture, Zanadu, and the Bay City Rollers, "You Made Me Beiieve in Magic." The young ladies also double as girlfriends, mothers, even young brides as they, along with the magician in the cast, unfold the ideal family on stage. According to Lori LeBeau, choreographer, and Kevin Millecam. playwrite. "We wanted to show people that family life can be a blast!! Most importantly, it doesn't take any special magic, nor does it have to happen on stage." The accent to this story is that these young people are donating their proceeds from the show to help save one of the only landmarks left standing in the Vernal area The Uintah Stake Tabernacle. This monument, the only structure in Vernal which is on the Utah Stale register of historical sites, sits on a lot which once included one and one half acres was purchased in 1897 for $400 as the history books read. The ground was broken in April of 1900 and the work began. The huge stones that were used for the foundation were quarried in the area of what is now know n as Steinaker Reservoir. By the following summer, 1901, the walls were erected and roof finished thanks to the hundreds of dedicated pioneers which included both members and non-members non-members of the Mormon Church. By 1907, eight years after beginning work the edifice was ready for ' I r r r ' ' " v KEVIN MILLECAM-playwrite and magician of magic show. dedication. Although the seating capacity of the tabernacle is 1400, during the course of the dedicatory meetings the building was completely filled. In fact by actual count over 200 people were able to find seats in the assembly room. The pioneers of the area sacrificed so as to provide such a unique landmark land-mark here in the area. The question comes to mind as to what can be done to preserve this spirit? A committee has been formed to accumulate funds and plan for renovation of the structure. The plan is to make the building itself, and the events scheduled within a major role in' community activities. The activity chairmen of the three stakes in Vernal have met to plan the rotation of a monthly cultural event for the community. These events will include in-clude "recitals by young artists, performances per-formances by various choirs, films and dramatic performances of an uplifting nature." Curtain time for the "Magic of Families Show" is 7:30 p.m., July 30, 31 and August 1 in the Vernal Juior High Auditorium. Two dollars per person or $10 per family donation. !
