The main concern of the teachers is he low 5 percent base increase. The thool board approved a 5 percent ncrease on the base of the teacher's salary schedule which gives a beginning begin-ning teacher $12,180 and teachers with 12 years experience will receive $18,270. In addition to the 5 percent increase in base salary, each full time professional employee will receive $550. This increase will provide new teachers with additional money to get them established in our community, Superintendent Philip Ellis said. "The $550 is a one shot deal which may not be there next year," said Shelly Hatch, Uintah Education Association president. "I feel the board did a fairly good job this year, but we would have been much happier if they would have put the increase on the base," Mrs. Hatch added. Of the 56 teachers present at Tuesday's meeting last week, 38 approved ap-proved the contract proposal. "I don't know how they can get qualified teachers with that increase," commented Robert Chandler, teacher in the Uintah School District, who wasn't present at the meeting. Classified personnel are still negotiating terms of their contract with the I'intah School Board, but they should settle during the board's meeting Thursday of this week. Other items on the agenda for this week's board meeting are a demonstration demon-stration of the use of computers in the district and setting the board's goals for 1981-82. |
