Show CANCER ANSWER j by Corey W. Grua J Public Into. Chairman, LlJintah Co. Unit Amcr Cancer Socr' QUESTION: If I switch to smoking a pipe or cigar will I be subject to the same cancer hazards as I am from cigarette smoking? ANSWER: Pipe and cigar smokers as a rule inhale less than cigarette smokers and have less risk of smoke-induced smoke-induced lung cancer. However, they are subject to cancers of the lip, oral cavity and the nasopharynx area. Cigarette smokers who inhale usually continue the practice even if they switch to cigars or pipes. Since pipe and cigar smoke is stronger, such smokers expose themselves to greater risk of lung cancer if they inhale. |
