Show Superior Tire Golf Classic July 21-22 Golfers from Utah, Colorado and from other states will blast golf balls in the Superior Tire-Bridgestone Golf Classic, July 21 and 22 at the Dinaland Golf Course in Vernal. The co-sponsors of the tourney are Bridgestone Tire and Ira Gagon and Ken Sowards of Superior Tire. There will be over $17,000 in cash and prizes, which will be based on the full field. The two-day tourney will be 36 hole medal play. The A. B and C night will tee off at 7:30 a.m. each day and the championship cham-pionship and professional flight members will start their golf action at 1 : 30 p.m . The handicaps in the divisions are as follows: championship, 0-7; A, 8-11; 8-11; B. 12-15 and C. 16 and over. Top prize money in the professional section of the golf classic will be $1200. Other awards are as follows: second, $740; third, $600; fourth, $480; fifth, $430- sixth, $400: seventh, $350; eighth, $280: ninth, $260; tenth. $230; 11th, $200; 12th, $170: 13th. $140: 14th, $110 and - 15th. $110. The first place winner in the amateur class will receive $350 in merchandise. Other prizes are: second, $300; third, $250; fourth, $200: fifth, $150: sixth, $100 and seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, $50. There will also be a closest to the hole contest. Two sets of Bridgestone Steel-belted Steel-belted radials will be awarded. There will also be mystery gate prizes. Past winners of the Superior Tire-Bridgestone Tire-Bridgestone Golf Classic are: George Schneiter, 1971: Bob Droz, 1972; Joey Bonsignore, 1973; Ron Branca, 1974; Rusty Guernsey, 1975; Mike Borich, 1976: Bob Flagler, 1977; and Jack Sommers. 1978. The Utah Oil Capital Pro-Am is set for July 20 at the Dinaland Golf Course in Vernal. There will be shotgun starts at 8a.m. and 1 p.m. The tourney will be 18 holes and will be a scramble. The teams will consist of one professional and four amateurs. The Utah Oil Capital Pro-Am is co-sponsored by Uintah Basin Oil Industry Firms. Six professional golfers, John Evans, Orem: Chip Garris. Provo; Dean Ridd, Provo: Doug Hart. Palm Springs; Jon Mauss. Dinaland Golf Course. Vernal and Lanny Nielsen. Midway, had signed up for the Superior Tire- Bridgestone Golf Classic as of last Friday, but Jon Mauss. Vernal professional, said that most of f golfers usually sign up about a wej before the tourney. Evans captured first place in t Provo Open and the other five golfe.' . have been doing fairly well at varim tournaments. |
