Show Steinaker Res. waters claim swimmers life Waters at Steinaker Reservoir claimed the life of a Colorado swimmer July 4. The body was reccovered approximately ap-proximately two hours after the drowning. drown-ing. The victim, John Michael Conroy, 29, Rangely, was on a campout at Steinaker with some n iends, also of the Rangely area when the accident happened, reported Sgt. Jack Reynolds, Uintah County Sheriff department. Conroy apparently went swimming alone at 11:30 a.m., said Reynolds, when he didn't reappear a search was instigated. The Uintah County Sheriff office and Search and Rescue diving team were contacted to aid in the search. The body was recovered about 12:25 p.m. by three vacationers, Melvin Pomery, Craig, Colo.; Jake Momeroy, Dallas, Texas and Larry Roe, Lakewood, Colorado, who were boating at the time of the accident and assisted in the search. The trio spotted the body in about 12 feet of water, 50 feet from shore in the Camp Ground Bay area. Mr. Roe dived and recovered the victim's body. Conroy's body was brought to Vernal and ,then transported to the medical examiner in Salt Lake City, Reynolds added. The investigation was under the direction of Deputy Kenneth (Pete) Pickup, USO. |
