Show PUBLIC NOTICE TURBIDITY OF DRINKING WATER EXCEEDS EX-CEEDS MAXIMUM ALLOWED FOR SEVERAL DAYS IN MAY. Vernal City wishes to notify its water users that the maximum turbidity level drinking water was exceeded for the month of May, 1979. The U.S. Environmental Environmen-tal Protection Agency has established limits of 1.0 Nephelometric Turbidity Unit (NTU) for a monthly average of daily water samples and 5 NTU for an average of any two consecutive con-secutive daily samples. The monthly average for the Vernal City system during May was 1.1 NTU, with the highest daily reading reaching 1.6. Turbidity is a measurement measure-ment of suspended particles par-ticles in the water. It is significant in drinking water both because of its -unsightly nature and because such particles could interfere with the chlorination process which is used to eliminate bacteria. While the particles par-ticles causing the turbidity turbidi-ty are not harmful, the net effect of turbid water js to increase the survival sur-vival rate of microorganisms micro-organisms contained in the water. This is of concern con-cern since several diseases are associated with water-borne microorganisms. micro-organisms. The City is presently conducting a Water Supply Supp-ly Study which will recommend solutions to this and to other challenges facing the system. We soli'cite your cooperation during the required re-quired development stages of the water system to better meet health standards. Publiscd in the Vernal Express July 12, 1979. |
