Show When the Shoe Pinches U1WORRIED childhood may turn thought toward to-ward such matters as inflation, economic 'fluctuation and the peaks and valleys pictured in business charts as they discover that these things are becoming a real concern of theirs. Rising prices have been anticipated as a result of strikes, increased wages, wider employment and other factors involving more complicated phases of the law of demand and supply. In some localities, higher prices already have come, the housewife noticing them in food costs, the husband hus-band in the prices of the things he supplies to his household. It is possible that even children have felt the effects, indirectly, at least. But the real problem didn't rear its ugly head Until auto makers announced price increases, effective at once in some cases. With the rise in rent, food or apparel costs, a lot of individual grumbling is heard. But raise the price of a car, and you get a chorus from the whole family. That la when the shoe really pinches young and old. It seems that, along with food, shelter and clothing, the auto has taken its place as one of the necessities of life. |
