The War Has Just Begun P pREMIER General Hideki Tojo of Japan told his people on the occasion of their celebration of the capture of Singapore that the war has only just begun That certainly is true true and and we hope to prove the truth of General Tojos Tojo's words in no uncertain way before were we're through with this war But it isn't going to be an easy job to prove that the war has only begun and that Japans Japan's astonishing success at the beginning is not going to continue swiftly to an astonishing aston aston- and fishing and for us disastrous disastrous ending For it must be admitted that Japans Japan's well- well oiled and well-prepared well military machine has made a very good beginning On this race for victory Japan beat the gun at Pearl Harbor Harbor Harbor Har Har- bor and started down the first lap in amazing style while we dumbfounded were just shedding shedding shedding shed shed- ding our our sweatshirt and putting on our track shoes Were We're just starting in the race now now and and Japan has a long lead Whether its it's too much of f a lead is still a moot question General Tojos Tojo's warning to his people that the race has just begun is a hopeful sign that Japan Isn't too confident about that lead On the other hand Japans Japan's concern should be a warning to arent aren't us They over dent They expect a long hard race and are preparing for i it We too must not be overconfident overconfident overconfident over over- confident we too must expect a grueling contest in which only grim determination and endurance will win Its It's true the war has only just begun Its It's true that we have the power to win But its it's also true that we can lose will lose will lose unless lose unless we go out all-out in this grim fight for our very life
