Show "Scandal," a Romance of A Swaggering Thief and the Girl Who Tames Him There's enough of the bad in the best of us to thoroughly enjoy the high-handed goings-on in Arnold Pressburger's exciting new comedy-drama, "A Scandal In Paris," coming on Friday to the Rivoli Theater through United Artists. George Sanders, Signe Hasso and Carole Landis star in this fabulous fab-ulous story of a keen-witted rogue who stole hearts and diamonds impartially im-partially during the 19th century. Sanders, in the title role of Vidocq, breaks out of jail in the opening sequences with the help of Akim Tamiroff. He plays the part of his side-kick, Emile, a knife-throwing rascal with a tendency to throw first and ask questions afterwards. They pull their first "job" on an enchanting young water-front cafe singer, Loretta, played by Carole Landis. Vidocq, who had dropped into the cafe for the "show," goes backstage for a game of hearts with Loretta, and remains to steal her ruby-encrusted garter from her shapely leg. The pretty young singer dumps her troubles on the broad shoulders shoul-ders of Richet, the Chief of Police, played by Gene Lockhart. From there on, the plot is an exciting ex-citing one and Arnold Pressburger has given the public another fine picture of dashing deviltry and colorful romance. |
