Show TREE PLANTING VALUABLE TO FARMERS, CATTLEMEN Value of planting trees as windbreaks wind-breaks was pointed out today by Raymond R. Moore, Utah State Agricultural college service forester. fores-ter. The three main benefits to be derived were listed as follows: Shelter to protect livestock from winter winds and to provide shade during summer months; reduction of soil moisture evaporation by reducting the velocity of hot winds, protection to orchards, crops and home buildings. 'iCattle are more easily kept in flesh when( protected from the severe winter elements. Death among sheep, particularly during lambing and shearing seasons, can be considerably reduced by providing provid-ing good tree shelter. Animals instinctively seek such shelter and if the farmer would provide it, he would undoubtedly realize greater profits in his business," Mr. Moore said. |
