Show i By Frances Aingworth ffj Heating could be done much more efficiently and with much greater economy if there were no soot problem connected with it. When root deposits itself in the furnace, as it does in practically all of them, with one exception, it forms an obstruction ob-struction to the combustion process by blocking off the draft, and that, in turn, only adds to the creation of still more soot. It is one of those vicious circles than can be remedied only bj occasional cleanings clean-ings of the furnace, which is why your furnace should be cleaned by a power suction cleaner at least i once a year. q 1 Not only does soot cause you to burn more fuel because of its interference in-terference with proper combustion, but it is known as one of the most effective insulators and therefore robs your furnace of the heat that it should be giving off for your comfort. Each fraction of an inch deposit of soot means that you must burn more fuel in order to make up for the heat loss due to the soot's insulating- quality. Recognizing the seriousness of this soot problem, the country's largest installers of warm air furnaces fur-naces has developed a new type of heater which does not give the soot any place to collect. The result is that the soot, having no place to settle, falls back into the combustion combus-tion zone and is burned. The process pro-cess of getting the soot back into the combustion zone is accomplish-' ed by a method known as Whirl-, pool Combustion. The reports from thousands of users say that this soot-free furnace saves on fuel to a marked degree. |
