Collections from all tax sources last year totaled $38,640,000, compared com-pared with $43,353,000,000 in 1945, a war year. Greatest single item was $9,147,033,0054 withheld from salaries and wages. Income taxes paid by individuals individu-als in 1946 including those not withheld at the source amounted to $17,884,000,000, a decline of $2,-billion. $2,-billion. below payments in 1945 when the individual tax rate was slightly higher.
