Show Kiwanis Members Cited For 25 Years Or Continuous Service Anniversary Banquet Celebrates Birthday of Springville Kiwanis Organized Feb. 2, 1922; Meeting Features Talk by Reed Culp, of Salt Lake A special feature of the 25th anniversary program pro-gram and banquet conducted, by the Springville Kiwanis Ki-wanis club, last Thursday evening at Chicken Roost, was presentation of a 25-year pin and certificate to H. T. Reynolds, Jr., and M. W. Bird, each of whom has the record of 25 years continuous continu-ous membership in the Kiwanis club. The presentation was made by Lt.-Governor Harold Christensen of the Utah-Idaho Kiwanis Dist. 1, a member of the Springville club. Several other members of the club, it was announced at the meeting, were charter members of the organization, but had at various vari-ous times discontinued membership member-ship for short periods. These men include A. O. Packard, J. F. Win-gate, Win-gate, and A. Y Wheeler, who also joined when the club was organized organ-ized February 2, 1922 Reed Culp of Salt Lake City addressed ad-dressed the club anniversary meeting, meet-ing, speaking on "The Need of Kiwanis in a Community." He urged club members to be on the lookout for subversive elements in the schools and to work for a true American government. He spoke in favor of free enterprise, and urged restriction of government interference in private business. A tribute to Kiwanis club members mem-bers was given by Mrs. Harold Christensen, and Wm. Schreiner entertained with vocal selections, as did Mrs. F. C. Packard. Their accompanists were Mrs. Schreiner and Mrs. Maurice Bird In attendance at the meeting as special guests of the club were several widows of former club members, including Mrs Christie Lee, Mrs. Mary Smart, Mrs. Lena Maycock, Mrs. Retta Harmer, Mrs, Ella Reynolds, Mrs. Blanch Beal, and Mrs. Eva Crandall. The attendance at-tendance prizes went to Mrs. Merrill Mer-rill Nielson and H. M. Weight. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Sumsion were in charge of arrangements for the anniversary entertainment. The meeting this evening will be given under direction of President Merle Sargent, with E. S. Groes-beck Groes-beck acting as toastmaster. It will be the official visit from the Lt.-Governor Lt.-Governor Harold Christensen, who will speak on club objectives and jtake up other subjects of special j interest to club members. |
