Show STUDENT WINS ' ANNUAL $100 UP SCHOLARSHIP Award Goes To Delores Childs For Her Outstanding Record In 4-H Club and School Work Delores Childs, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell C. Childs of this city has been named winner of the Carl R. Gray scholarship given giv-en annually by the Union Pacific railroad to the outstanding boy and girl in state 4-H work. Named as alternate for the scholarship is another Springville girl, Voneta Miner, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Miner, and a close friend of the winner. The scholarship will entitle De-lores, De-lores, a junior at the high school, to $100 toward four years of edu- cation at Utah State Agricultural Agricultur-al College. Selection Selec-tion was made by a county committee, com-mittee, then the state officials checked the records rec-ords of all county candidates. The fact that both the winner r- - , "1 . t. ... i and the alternate Miss Childs come from the same city is unusual un-usual in itself, but the careers of the two girls have been closely interwoven, both in 4-H work and in school. Voneta, also a junior at the high school, like Delores, does outstanding outstand-ing work in clothing achievement. She won the state award in that division and was selected to attend at-tend 'the national 4-H congress in Chicago' last December. Both girls have been in 4-H work for five years, and each has worked work-ed as a leader during last year. The selection of Delores as the scholarship winner was by a close margin, with the basis of the selection selec-tion being on scholarship and all-around all-around excellence in both 4-H and school work. |
