Show $40,000 AND THREE PLAYERS FOR MAYS BOSTON, July 31. Tho trade by which Carl Mays, underhand pitcher of the Boston Bos-ton Americans, was transferred to the New York A rnericans took rank today among the biggest transactions financially in the history of baseball. An official of the Red Sox stated that the Boston club received $-10,000 In cash for Mays, in addition to Pitchers Allan Russell and Robert McGraw, and a third player, to be chosen later. An estimate placed the trading value of the three players in excels ex-cels of ?15,000. It was understood that Darrell Pratt, second baseman of the New York team, was the most likely ciioice of the Boston Bos-ton club among the six players available. With this choice exercised, the Bed Sox management is expected to consummate a deal now ponding which has as its object the acquisition by Boston of Scott Perry, p'tcher of the Philadelphia Athletics. Boston Bos-ton probably will offer l-att and another player with $15,000 for Perry, it is said. |
