Show MAKES NEW RULING Minimum Weights for Carloads Car-loads of Coal and Coke Established. Establishment of new minimum weights for carload shipments of coal and coke have been ajiiiounned by the United States railroad administration in a communication received yesterday by the public utilities commission of Utah. In his letter, ilax Thelen, director of public service, says the new minimum weights will apply only to a limited number of cases, as most of the minima now existing' are higher, and therefore will not be disturbed. On coke shipments the. minimum weight for carload shipments in open cars will be 50,000 pounds, except that when cars are loaded to their full visible or cubical capacity actual weight shall apply. In closed or boxcars, the minimum mini-mum weight set is 40.000 pounds. The minimum weight on coal in open cars is placed at 90 per cent of the marked capacity of the ear. When the cubical capacity of the car is such that It will not hold such a weight, charge .shall be made on actual weight. When minimum above actual weight is used, the waybill must bear a notation' that car and lading have been examined and the car found not to be fully loaded. Following are the minimum weights established for coal in box or stock cars: Cars less than 60,000 pounds capacity, 60,000 pounds; cars between 60,000 and 70,000 pounds capacity, 55,000 pounds; cars between 70,000 and 80,000 pounds capacity, 60,000 pounds; cars between 80,000 and 90,000 pounds capacity, 65,000 pounds; cars of 90,000 pounds capacity or over, 70,000 pounds. |
