Show AMUSEMENTS 'Heart of Gold' Is Pleasing Play at Strand UrjEART OF GOLD" is the title of the new World picture, starring Louise Huff with Johnny Mines, which opened yesterday at the Strand theater. The story was written by Lucy Sarver, and it concerns a nation-wide contest for tho best design for a dress. Little Annie Wilkes ( played by Louise Huff wins the contest, but the award goes to her employer, Madame Es telle, instead of to Annie, because the latter had submitted submit-ted her design on Madame Estelle's stationery sta-tionery without attaching her own name to the drawing. Madame Es telle refuses to turn over the prize money to Annie, and even goes further than .this she fires Annie, and . then exploits the dress in such a man- I ner that she makes a barrel of money 1 out of it. Annie, of course, tries to get the prize that Is rightfully hers and the other things she should have, and is nobly assisted in this effort by her young sweetheart, Mike Monahan. Eventually the two young people win, but only after long and hard struggling. "Heart of Gold'" is just the sort of a picture that everyone thoroughly enjoys. en-joys. It is the sort of a picture that Miss Huff is seen in to especial advantage. advant-age. It will greatly enhance her popularity, popu-larity, as it will that of Johnnv Hines, who is seen in the role of Mike Monahan. Vivian Martin Has Leading Role in "Louisiana,' Shown Today at Paramount-Empress. DAINTY little Vivian Martin in "Louisiana," "Louisi-ana," a "different" picture, where the "city feller" turns out good in the story, while the country boy is the vi 1 -lian, is the offering at the Paramount-Empress Paramount-Empress today and tomorrow. Accompanying" this production is the two-reel Mack Sennet t comedy, "Treat 'em Rough," In "Louisiana" there is a young mountaineer moun-taineer in whom jealousy provokes an insane desire to slay. This character, played by Arthur Allardt, furnishes fur-nishes much of the dramatic element in this photoplay. The picture was directed by Robert Vignola and Alice Eyton prepared the scenario.
