Show "Air Traffic" i Policemen to Serve Chicago (Chicago Tribune Special Service.) j CHICAGO, July 31. Chicago is to have air traffic cops. Under the terms of an ordinance to he introduced in-troduced in the city council late today to-day hy the corporation counsel, the jurisdiction of Chicago's chief of police is extended to the air, and exhibition airplanes and gas bag aircraft will be prohibited from flying over the city. All rules and regulations regarding flying are to be enforced by the superintendent of police. If it is necessary to train policemen to patrol the air to enforce en-force the regulations, provision will be asked later. The ordinance requires all persons operating aircraft for profit to give a $20,000 bond to the city to insure against damages, and compels all pilots to take out a license. Only persons who have driven their own airplanes for 200 hours will be accepted ac-cepted as qualified for a pilot's license li-cense in Chicago. In restricting exhibition flights, the proposed ordinance, while prohibiting pro-hibiting such flights over the city proper, permits exhibition flights over inclosed fields, but not over the heads of the audiences. |
