Show HOISTING HUN FLAGS ADMITTED BY GIRLS Young Women at Lehi Plead That They Wanted to See Commotion That Would Follow. Special to The Tribune. LEHI, July 26. A mystery which the officials and citizens of Lehi have been endeavoring to fathom since Pioneer Pio-neer day, was solved today by high school girls who confessed to City Marshal Mar-shal Jones that thp.y were the perpetrators. perpe-trators. l''or Lehi's Pioneer day celebration the town was ablaze with "Old Glory-' flying from all the public buildings and most of the private houses. In addition addi-tion to the Stars and Stripes the citi- zens were astonished to see in the early morning the German flag floating from the postoffice arid the homes of Mayor Sidney Gilchrist, City Recorder A.'L. Yates and James M. Kirkham. Enemy aliens were blamed and the excitement was intense. Tar and feathers feath-ers tor the perpetrators also were talked of. The mayor offered a reward of $100 for the identity of the persons responsible responsi-ble for the, hoisting of the Hun emblems. em-blems. When the girls saw how seriously the town took the affair they went to the city marshal and confessed that they tacked up the flags in a spirit of fun to see what kind of a commotion the German emblem would cause. They did not ask for the $100 reward. |
