Show A Hero Every Day. Twice attacked by a submarine, the Lnlted States navy armed guard aboard the steamship Chincha came off with double dou-ble honors. This crew was In charge of Elmer Dinnes Arnold, seaman, second class, U. S. N., of the armed guard detail de-tail of the New York navy yard. This crew acted with extreme bravery on each occasion and its efficiency and quickness under Seaman Arnold was of such a nature na-ture as to win commendation from the secretary of the navy. In its second encounter en-counter eight of its shots, fired directly at the submarine, put it out of commls'-sion. commls'-sion. Arnold enlisted in the navv in 1915. His next of kin is a sister, Miss Lillian Evans of Carmel, Ind. |
