Show VISITS DESTROYER BASE WITH GEDDES Assistant Secretary of the Navy Roosevelt Roose-velt Greatly Impressed With What He Saw. QUKENSTOWK, Wednesday, Juy 24. After an inspection of the allied destroyer base with Sir Eric Geddes, first lord of the admiralty, Franklin O. Roosevelt, assistant secretary of the A.nerican navy department, stated to the Associated Press correspondent that he had been greatly impressed with the putting together of the British and i American naval units into one efficient j anti-submarine operating force without : cither losing any feature of its iden- I tity. The members of the party were i guests at luncheon of the American j fleet commander, and then saw American Ameri-can bluejackets fitting out several giant seaplanes, watched torpedo overhauling i and viewed other activities at the base. The party left early in the evening. The secretary was happy over the fact that the highest British naval authority au-thority had journeyed to the base on an American naval destroyer, and said he believed the day's inspection was worth more than many days spent around the conference table. |
