Show World's Series Question. NEW YORK. July 26. The general view of club owners here was that the National and American leagues should Immediately Im-mediately hold a joint meeting to decide whether a world's series should be played. Thc-y opposed any suggestion that the series should be abandoned, saylnjr that such action would bring keen disappointment disappoint-ment to civilians and fighting men alike. While there was some talk among officials of-ficials of the National league that some double-headers should be introduced, in order to shorten the regular season, both President Hempstead of the New York club and John Heydler. secretary or the league, declared that cure should be taken so that "a joke should not be made out of the race." There will be little demand for a world's series this year, in the opinion of John K. Tener. president of the National league, in commenting tonight on the effect of the decision of Secretary of War Baker that the "work or figh.t" rule would riot be applied to baseball players I until September I. |
