Show Vandal Beaver CutsBownTwo Trees in Liberty Park Attaches Come Upon "Engineer" Trying to Break Up Pond. DISCOVERY that there is an engineer en-gineer of no mean native ability in the Liberty park 7.00 has been made by S. K. Lambourne, superintendent super-intendent of parks. Recently Mr. Lambourne called the attention of Commissioner Hernia a II. Green of the park department to the work done by this engineer iu felling two trees. Eaeh was about eight inches in diameter. Because of the appearance of the tree stumps suspicion was directed away from the hatchet-wielding small boys and toward one of the little animals in the zoo. That it was the work of a beaver, Mr. Lambourne surmised. He1 found one of .the two specimens gone, from the pen where the animals are kept. It had dug tinder the fence to! freedom. j The animal was finally found cadeav- j oring to break the sheet of ice on the! park lake, thumping the surface with its j tail in hammer-like blows. It was 1 chased into a water flume and there cornered, captured and returned to the pen. The trees cut down by tho animal were not valuable to the park, bein j two of the cottouwoods near the old: mill, and due to be chopped down sooner j or later. I I |
