Show AIMPLR New Tear's wedding, the announcement of which wUI come as a surprise to the friends of the young couple, was that of Miss riuma Anita Purcell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Gallagher of this city, 'an Ernest Edmund Grimes, formerly of Lexington. Ky., and now of Hurley, Idaho, which took place yesterday in the presidential presi-dential suite of the Newhouse hotel. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. P. A. Slmpkin of Phillips Congregational church, in the presence of relatives and a few intimate friends. A dinner followed in the main dining room of the hotel and Mr. and Mrs. Grimes left at 2:30 o'clock for their home in Hurley, Idaho. The mantel of the drawing room of the presidential suite, where the ceremony cere-mony took place, was banked with palms and ferns, with vases of pink carnations and roses In tall crystal vases at either ! ' j.cnd. The couple knelt for the benedic-tion benedic-tion on u white satin pillow in front of the mantel. ' The dinner table had a cluny cover, with a crystal vase of pink roses and carnations, car-nations, combined with ferns, as a centerpiece. cen-terpiece. Place cards contained New Tear greetings. The bride wore a handsome Burgundy velvet suit trimmed in moleskin with a white hat with touches of Burgundy and moleskin. Shoes and gloves were In corresponding cor-responding shades. An arm bouquet of American Bea uty roses was worn. Mr. Grimes Is a civil engineer, now encased in construction work for the Larowe Construction company, lie formerly for-merly made, his headquarters in Salt Lake and is well known here. The bride Is a charming young woman, popular In a large circle of friends. A prettily appointed New Year's reception re-ception was given by Miss Dorothy Leteh-field Leteh-field at her home on M street yesterday from 4 until 8 o'clock. The living room - and library were decorated In ferns, pine houghs, pepper berries and red candles. The tea table had a centerpiece of pink sweet peas arranged in a crystal bowl, with colored electric lights underneath, giving a soft glow to the flowers. Presiding at the tea table were Mrs. TV. R. Hutchinson. Mrs. Camden Riley of Ogden. Miss Verna Bowman of Og-den Og-den and Mrs. J. H. Kelsall. Assisting in serving were Miss Dorothv Colburn, Miss Helen Ifanchett. Miss Margaret Mc-Mlllen. Mc-Mlllen. Miss Elizabeth Johnson. Miss Jean Hutchinson. Miss Florence Gill and the following young women from Ogden: Miss Verna Tavey, Miss Carrie Knapp. Miss Florence Bo in and Miss Mary Agnes Keene. Receiving the guests' cards at the door were Dolly Hayes and Peggy Ackerman. Assisting the hostess in receiving and entertaining the guests were her mother, moth-er, Mrs. C. T. Letchfield; her sister. Miss Helen Letchfield, and her aunts. Miss Laura Jones and lyiss Stella Jones. Three . hundred invitations were issued. Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Salisbury gave a I New Year's reception yesterday from o I until 7 o'clock at their home on East First South street. About 300 guests called during the receiving hours.. Ropes of Christmas greens studded with red extended from the chandelier to the corners of the table. Small red bells were suspended from the chandelier and about the rooms. A plate supper was served and dancing was enjoyed afterward. after-ward. Christmas decorations were used. The Elks club kept "open house" last night for the members and their friends. The guests were received from 9 until 11, with supper served at 11 o'clock. Cabaret features were introduced during the sup- per hour and general dancing was enjoyed en-joyed through the evening.
