Show THE NEW REGIME. No inauguration of a Utah governor ever has been marked by greater good will than the inauguration of Governor Bamberger. Ho was not elected by a partisan par-tisan vote. In all the opposition parties ho was supported by considerable factions. fac-tions. And thousands who did not vote for him were by no means rendered disconsolate dis-consolate because of his victory. Yesterday Yes-terday when he was sworn into office he had the good wishes of the entire electorate. elec-torate. Those who expressed the hope and confidence con-fidence that Governor Bamberger would irove as efficient an executive as his immediate predecessor were setting for him a high standard. That Mr. Bam- berger realized this was made evident in his address when he alluded to Governor Gov-ernor Spry in these terms of fervent eulogy: " Great credit is due our retiring governor, "William Spry, who has made j Utah a most capable and energetic j leader. Not only has he been most j zealous in advancing the development of our state within itself, but he has also put Utah in an advanced place among the other states of the Viation. At the recent conference of governors and governors,-eIect at Washington, that I was privileged to attend and of which Governor Spry was chairman, I had occasion to note with what great respect and appreciation he was received, re-ceived, and I can assure you that he has been a governor of whom Utah can well bo proud, for he was governor among governors.'' Governor Spry 's last administration had been one of trial and profound stress. He was called upon to face conditions con-ditions which would have broken weaker men. To few American governors has come a sterner test than that represented repre-sented by the Hillstrom case. In face of ferocious threats against himself and his family, Governor Spry did not hesitate hesi-tate to do his duty as God had given him to see his duty. For that constancy to hisstandard of right he was made the victim of terrorists, and today he still rests under the shadow of their menace. His devotion to duty in a particular case is by no means his sole claim to the state 's admiration and gratitude. He was an able governor in his first administration, admin-istration, and the laurels he then won earned for him renominatlon and reelection. re-election. Governor Bamberger enters office with a grave financial problem to face. He has made "economy1' the motto of his administration, and in these days of excessive taxes he has selected a popular popu-lar shibboleth. His fellow citizens appreciate appre-ciate the task that is before him; they do not minimize the difficulties he must overcome to give the state an economical economi-cal administration, but they trust his ability and long experience as a business busi-ness man to achieve success along the lines he has indicated. All citizens of the state unite in wishing wish-ing Governor Bamberger health, happiness happi-ness and a most successful and prosperous pros-perous administration. |
