Show FRENCH REPULSE GERMAN ATTACKS IN THE CHAMPAGNE PARTS, Jan. 1. 2:55 p. m. "In the Champagne district yesterday, after a violent bombardment with trench guns, the Germans made two successive attacks on our advanced posts west of Auberive," says today's report from the war office. "These two attacks were repulsed completely. com-pletely. "On the right bank of the Meuse the artillery was rather active during the night between Chambrettes farm and Bezonvaux."' The communication Issued this evening by the war office says: On the right hank of the Meuse the Germans directed a strong surprise attack against the trenches we had taken to the east of Chambrettes farm. The attack failed completely. On the remainder of the front the day was comparatively quiet. Belgian communication: To the east of Ramscapelle and toward to-ward Dlxmude reciprocal bombardments bombard-ments took place. A spirited struggle by means of field and trench artillery is reported at Het-Sas. |
