Show WOMAN'S APPEAL MAY RECEIVE ATTENTION Mrs. Woodrow Wilson Plays a Part in Effort to Save Life of Mrs. Besslo Wakefield, i HARTFORD, Conn., March 7. A letter let-ter sent to Mrs. Woodrow Wilson, wife of tho president of the "United States, asking her to request her husband to interveno for the life of Mrs. Bessie Wakefield, who is at the state prison under sentence of death, has been received re-ceived ut the governor's office in tho capitnl, That Mrs. Wilson brought it to the attention of tho president and that ho took at least semi-official cognizance cogni-zance of it, is shown by the fact that he turned the matter ovor to the national na-tional department of justice. The letter was written to Mrs.' Wilson by Mrs. William T. Hall of Melvern, Pa, It was sent to tho executive department de-partment ot' this state by tho department, depart-ment, of nustico in Washington and in part follows; "Ask your husband to us his influence in-fluence w'ith Governor Simoon E. Baldwin Bald-win to pardon or commuto tho sentence of Mrs. Bessie Wakefield, to life imprisonment. im-prisonment. T think for tho sako of those little innocent children something .should bo done, i hopo you will nor think mc bold in writing to you, but as you arc a woman T thought you would know best what to do." |
