Thoron Blakoslee, a widely-known art doalor, died tonight shortly after ho had been found with a 'bullet wound in his temple. tem-ple. Mr. Blakeslee was talking in his main galley to his lawyer and tho representative of a prominent Paris art dealer, who is said to bo a largo creditor of the dead man, when he excused ex-cused himself and entered a smaller gallery. After a whilo a shot was heard and the visitors and attendants, rushing into tho room, found Mr. Blakeslee prone on a settee, uncon-.scious, uncon-.scious, but still breathing. Ho died half an hour later and boforo bis wifo could reach him. Mr. Blakeslee 'b friends say that a severe se-vere attack of headache was tho cause of tho act. Though tho dealer had for some time appoarod depressed ovor business affairs, it was said tonight to-night that ho was solvent and had only recently expressed tho opinion thut the prospects for tho coming year woro unusually good. Several years ago Mr. Blakeslee bought what appeared to bo an unimportant unim-portant canvas for $S50. Upon renovation renova-tion the picture- proved to do a gonu-ino gonu-ino Rembrandt. Mr. Blakeslee was offered of-fered $150,000 for tho painting some timo ago. but rofuscd to sell. Ruben's "Adoration of tho Magii," valued at $100,000. was ono of the pictures in tho room where tho art dealer was found. Mr. Blakeslee is Gl years old. He is survived by his widow. |
