Show CHAUFFEURS' EXAMINATIONS ARE BECOMING MORE STRICT It is becoming steadily moro difficult for a person to qualify as a chauffeur in Massachusetts, and undor tho present pres-ent requirements it is almost impossible for an applicant to secure a license unless un-less he is thoroughly capable. No drastic change has been made in the examination, but the standard has been raised little by little, with tho result re-sult that only about two-thirds of the applicants are now receiving licenses. Two years ago about throc-quarterB of tho applicants were licensed and threo years ago about sovon-eighths. During the past three years the number num-ber of persons applying for examination examina-tion has increased rapidly. Under the system now in effect less attention is given tho written examination than tho road test. Formerly each applicant had to answer a list of about twenty-five twenty-five questions. Now there aro only about twelve questions on tho papor for the written examination. .Nino of these usually deal with the automobile laws aud rules of the road, aud the other three pertain to tho mechanical control and proper operation opera-tion of a motor vohiclo, Tho same examination ex-amination paper is not usod right along, hut thero is a series of papers, and each week n different paper is used. |
