Show BIG HOI BASH'S OIL JS VERY RICH Well-Known Salt Lake Oil Man Tells of Big Wyoming Meld. A. J. Scott, the well known oil man, who has charge of the drilling operations of tho Utah-Wyoming Consolidated Oil company In tho Big Horn basin, Is In tho city for a few days at home. When asked Saturday for a statement of the Utah-Wyoming Utah-Wyoming company, In whlcn many Salt Lakers are interested, Mr. Scott said: "Well No. 5 of tho Utah-Wyoming Oil company Is now at a depth of 1350 feet, and is lowing a light volatile crude petroleum, amber in color, of 45 gravity at Intervals of from one to two hours. In my opinion this well, from its present pres-ent source of supply, will produco from 40 to 50 barrels per day. This well is drilling in tho Colorado shalo of the Croataccous and It lias not yet reached what is known locally as the Gray Bull sand, where wo expect to find the greatest great-est production. These sands produce oil and gas wherever touched anywhere in the Big Horn basin, as is evidenced by development In and around Gray Bull, where oil is found and where gas Is plpea tO the Various lll.lli tnwnc: Kiirrmin.Mr.r' and Is used for fuel. "Tho formation through which this well has passed has been almost entirely shale. Shales being the genesis of petroleum, theso Immonso bods arc proof positive of the extensive production and longevity of tho wells of this locality. As drilling has progressed In this well the shales liavo shown an Increased production of oil with the Increased depth. Tho rock pressure at the present time, as Is evidenced evi-denced by the present action of tho well, must ho about 500 per square inch. "One of tho peculiarities of this well Is the fact that at its present depth the temperature at the -bottom is "S degrees Fahrenheit. This goes to snow that U10 lighter products have not been volatilized, hence tho high gravity. In ail of tho wells that I have ever drilled In this In-tormountaln In-tormountaln country, tho tompcrature has increased with the depth, and onlv residuum resi-duum or heavy gravity oils havo be'en tho result. For this reason I expect very nice results from this well. Tho ahsonco of sulphur In this oil Is another splendid splen-did feature. It Is so light and volatilo that the crudo can bo burned In an ordinary ordi-nary lamp and will compare favorably with any of tho ordinary refined products. "This crude contains a very high percentage per-centage of naphtha. The first product of the still Is a benzine of 90 Baumo gravity. grav-ity. Tho percentage of high grade naphthas Is equal to any oil that I have any knowledge of ever having been produced. pro-duced. These lighter products aro extremely ex-tremely valuab!6. RIgolinc. which is close to a liquid ether and is used largely by surgeons, is one of the products of this crude. The percentage of burning oils Is also large and tho still reslduums aro especially valuablo for the manufacture of high grade lubricants. "Tho proximity of this find to the railroad rail-road makes It look llko an old time bonanza. bo-nanza. This crude In color and odor resembles the famous crude produced In Tlona, Warren county, Pa., which Is conceded con-ceded to havo been the most valuablo crude found any place Jn the United States. Within a very short time this field will be the mccca of oil producers from all over tho country. Its area Is unlimited and Its possibilities have not been touched." New York Mining Stocks. James A.
