TI1C3' were given tho choice of giving this plcdgo or facing insurgent opposition in the primaries. All of the statesmen who weie served with this ultimatum chose the former alternative and, as a result, will have tho nomination handed to them on a platter by the grateful Republicans Re-publicans of thoir respectivo districts. Practically all of tho now Republican Republi-can candidates at tho primaries arc running run-ning on insurgent platforms. Answers by them to tolcgraphic inquiries as to their position on the speakership show that they aro making political capital of Undo Joo's unpopulnrity. Congressman "W. B. McKinlcy, chairman chair-man of tho national Republican congressional con-gressional committee, in reference to rumors that- he would not again support sup-port Mr. Cannon for tho speakership, taid today: 'I am Mr. Cannon's friend, and if he is a candidate for speakership, I shall certainly vote for him." |
