Burbldge, and I am running for Bountiful City J Council. I am running because 1 am seriously threatened by the direction the Incumbent city council and mayor are forcing our community to follow. I made a conscious choice to live In Bountiful 17 years ago because I love this community, and I enjoy our downtown area. Changes are needed down- town, but the current redevelopment program Is not the way. I oppose this J redevelopment program! Redevelopment threatens to destroy our communl- ty, and there are serious problems In the offing. The council has refused to listen to three of their citizen committees and have dismissed because committee recommendations failed to support redevelopment. Let me out- J line the problems I see as succinctly as possible: I 1. The downtown shopping and residential area that I love will be gone des- Z troyed and replaced by another malll J 2. The Increased tax base proclaimed by the Incumbent council (redevelopment J agency). Is a myth. All the Increased property tax goes to the redevelopment Z, agency to broaden Its political and economic base. Z. 3. Very little If any revenue will come In from sales tax, as much of the develop- Z ment Is to be Industrial. 5 4. A major portion of the city west of Main Street will be converted to medium Industry, and low cost housing. 5 3. Low cost housing and criminal activity go together, so If you haven't been ? burglarized yet you probably wllll T 6. The redevelopment agency has taken an estimated $400,000 out of our 1981 tax base, causing Increased property taxes, and a 6 Percent franchise tax. Z 7. Redevelopment has taken about a quarter million dollars from the school district tax base In 1981 alone. Bountiful Is a residential community. I feel it should stay that way. If the city council has Its way, we will be a commerclallndustrialresldentlal city. I feel changes are needed In our business area, but not destruction, if you feel Bountiful should stay primarily a residential, bedroom community with j. Improved shopping, vote for me, George Burbldge. If you favor the changes proposed by the council, then vote for the Incumbents. This may be your only chance to make a conscious choice and vote for the kind of city you favor. AS rORMfR CAMDIDATtS, WE TEEL GEORGE BURBIDGE ACCURATELY REPRESENTS OUR j.
