Show KENT MAX WARD Plays Trombone certs. After graduating from college col-lege Mr. Ward continued playing play-ing the trombone with the Rocky Mountain Symphony in Ogden. He enjoyed playing in the symphony but after several years decided it was to far to travel to the rehearsals so dropped out for awhile. He was happy last year when the newly organized Bountiful Symphony asked him to join their ranks. He has played in three musicals put on by the community. KENT ALSO enjoys playing the harmonica and the accordion accor-dion in his spare time. He is presently employed at LDS Hospital as a computer programmer. prog-rammer. He and his wife, Susan, with their daughter reside re-side in Centerville. w The Bountiful Symphony this week spotlights Kent Max Ward who has enjoyed music since he was small and learned to play the piano from his father. He was born in Idaho Falls, Ida. but did most of his growing up in Kaysville. HE STARTED playing baritone bari-tone horn in junior high but switched to trombone because it seemed there was more opportunity to play trombone in different groups. He attended Davis High School where he played in the marching mar-ching and symphonic bands under the direction of Gregg I. Hanson. He also studied privately pri-vately with Mr. Hanson. After graduating from high school, Mr. Ward traveled to Los Angeles with the Davis High Marching Band where they marched in a half-time show for the Los Angeles Rams. That fall he studied privately pri-vately with the brass specialist Mrs. Fay Hanson at Weber State College. He played in the marching band, symphonic band and the brass choir. AFTER SERVING an LDS mission to Argentina he continued con-tinued his studies at WSC. He found time to study and play his trombone in many different groups and enjoyed the marching mar-ching band and wind ensemble under Don Threlkeld, the state band or jazz ensemble under Dr. Earl Ericksen, and the trombone choir directed by Dr. Herbert Cecil. He studied privately with Carson Sharp and played in various musical productions. He was involved in the music fraternity. Kappa Kappa Kap-pa Psi and served one year as the chapter president. He graduated gra-duated in 1978 with a BA in data processing and minors in music, math, and Spanish. BETWEEN 1976 and 1977 Kent also played in the Northern North-ern Utah Honor Band. The first summer they toured Europe performing goodwill concerts in five European countries. The following summer sum-mer the band toured closer to home playing outdoor con- |
